Teaching is absolutely my favorite part of having a harp career, and is one of the most rewarding aspects of being a musician. I find it extremely fulfilling to watch a new harpist grow and succeed in learning to play this beautiful instrument! I am very passionate about the art of teaching and enjoy my diverse range of students. I am happy to teach on pedal, lever, and lap harps. Teaching the full range from beginning through advanced students challenges me as a teacher, and I enjoy the challenge.  For the student, even the beginning stage of playing the harp is very rewarding, because even when you do not yet know how to play beautifully, the harp sounds beautiful on its own!

I have been teaching the harp since 1997. I previously taught on the faculty of Albright Middle School in the Alief School District as Director of the harp orchestra, and have taught various classes and clinic workshops in the Southern US. While I began my studies in classical music, I love play and teach other genres such as folk, popular, and sacred music. My students have ranged in age from six year olds to sixty year olds. I am equally comfortable teaching children and adults. I understand, and take into account that everyone learns differently and at different paces, and I approach each student's needs in a manner that best suits the individual. We work together keeping in mind this ultimate goal: to have fun making music!

Instruction will emphasize:
Healthy hand position & technique
Quality sound & beautiful tone
Practice techniques for the individual
Music reading
Performance skills
Ensemble experience
Harp care & maintenance
Career preparation
Summary sheet for the student’s reference during the week

Who Can Play the Harp?
Anyone -- that's who! I have found that it is never too late to learn to play an instrument you love. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and ablility levels, and I have taught a huge age range of students- from age 6 on through their 60's. In recent years I have seen a large increase in the number of beginning adult students, which is great news!

If you are considering lessons, here are some basic points to ponder:
~ All students should be prepared to rent or buy a harp to practice on at home.
~ Any student will learn to play the harp more quickly if they are already able to read music before beginning harp lessons, however, I do not require prior musical knowledge.
~ When deciding if your child is old enough to begin taking harp lessons, rather than going strictly by age, a good guideline is that small children must be able to sit still & pay attention through a 1/2 hour lesson, and be able to practice 15 minutes each day at home.
~ I also expect all students regardless of age to have a strong desire to learn how to play the harp well, approach any suggestions or instructions I give with an open mind & "can do" attitude, and to supplement their learning experience by listening to recordings of harp music and attending live concerts, clinics or harp circle meetings as often as reasonably possible.

I now offer lesson referral incentive program! When a new student joins my studio based on the referral of a current student, the current student will be credited for two free lessons after the new student completes a month of lessons with the intent to continue their harp studies.
